Gracias a la Fundación "Elisabeth Rose", la ciudad de Linares ha recuperado el antiguo Palacio de los Mendoza, cerrado desde noviembre de 1897 tras la misteriosa desaparición de su último dueño, el explorador y multimillonario Cristóbal de Mendoza. Durante la presentación de su última adquisición, el Ídolo de Damballa Nzambi, surgieron advertencias sobre posibles maldiciones, pero Cristóbal las ignoró. Esa fue la última vez que se supo de él.
